Cheap Trick has provided the essential link between heavy metal, punk, and 60s pop. Huge crunchy power chords and an enigmatic stage show have left a lasting effect on 80s and 90s rock.
After a few unsuccessful albums and their tours, Sick Man of Europe became known as Cheap Trick. Guitarist Rick Nielsen and bassist Tom Petersson hooked up with drummer Bun E. Carlos and Robin Zander and hit the big time. They began opening for bands like Kiss, Queen, and AC/DC in the late 70s. Cheap Trick became super stars in Japan and began touring there, packing the Budokan Arena. They then began a roller coaster career releasing numerous albums, some getting only minor acclaim, others producing chart topping hits.
Their familiar energetic approach to rock will forever have its mark on our ever-changing music culture.
